Vehicle Description California virgin car that was body off frame restored to new.
We have a photo album that documents this Bel Air before, during and after the restoration.
This is a real Bel Air restored back to exactly how it was born.
It is actually pretty amazing, you would never guess it but this car was restored in 1978 and it looks like it was recently done.
It was a clean car, all in tact to start with.
We also have a copy of the $1,650 cashiers check that he paid for the car.
EXTERIOR:
We have pictures of the body being dipped at Redi-Strip.
Pictures also show the bare metal body with no rust or damage.
It could arguably be one of the best 1955 Chevy bodies in existence.
It is laser straight, I don't see any ripples top to bottom, All the panels fit square and flush.
I don't find any bubbles, cracks or shrinkage.
This is pretty amazing considering it was painted 43 years ago, I would say it has proven itself.
The paint is still polished beautifully to a very smooth glossy finish.
It is repainted it's original colors.
The doors open and shut with ease.
The windows glide up and down.
The stainless and chrome on the cars looks practically new.
It has California one piece bumpers and it has the optional bumper guards.
Other accessories include stone shields on the front fenders, rocker moldings, dual mirrors, door handle guards, fuel door trim and working reverse lights.
The door jambs are very nicely restored and the weatherstrips still look new.
INTERIOR:
Pictures show it gutted to a bare shell.
The dry, clean metal was prepped, primed and painted.
The dash was reassembled, the trim was replaced, the original AM radio was put back in.
The steering wheel is in excellent shape, the glove box liner is clean.
Overhead it still has the chrome ribs and the dome lights work.
The cushions in the seats feel firm and the upholstery fits without wrinkles.
Correct upholstery on the seats and door panels still looks practically new.
It has the correct tight loop carpet on the floor.
Under the dash is even restored.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
Original 265 V-8 motor with stock manifolds, carb, air cleaner, glass fuel bowl and valve covers.
It even has correct codes on the distributor and generator.
At the time of the restoration everything in the engine bay was apart and restored.
The engine has recently been touched up with some Chevy orange.
It has an optional oil filter, yes oil filters were actually an option.
It has correct GM hoses and clamps.
The core support, under the hood and inner fenders are smooth clean metal with a semi-gloss black finish and under the hood to firewall is painted nicely to color the car all the hardware hinges wiring appears to be in excellent condition the trim tag matches the colors of the car TRUNK COMPARTMENT:
We also have pictures of the trunk compartment stripped to bare, clean metal then primed and painted.
It has a correct rubber mats and replace the panel behind the seat and the weather strip the white wall tire has never been on the ground the rim is painted in the Jack assembly is restored is a jacking instructions decal UNDERSIDE:
The body was off the frame for restoration.
Photos show it taken down to a bare, rust free frame.
The chassis components were completely rebuilt and detailed.
The floors are clean metal correctly repainted red oxide primer.
It was kept original with spiral shocks and correct single exhaust.
The fuel system was replaced.
Bottom of the motor is clean, the Powerglide automatic was rebuilt and the original rear end was redone.
